The green slime is just algae . It is not harmful to your turtle so there isnt a reason to get rid of it if they are water turtles It like their natural habitat. Hope this helps.

Brush it off with a toothbrush and some soap. Don't brush ALL the algae off. Remember a pond/lake isn't perfectly clean how you would want to mantain it. A turtle needs to be in a similar precise habitat, and leaving some algae may benefit.

Don't use soap or other cleaning products, unless it's specifically an aquarium-safe cleaner [which you can find in pet stores]. You can brush off the algae, but small amounts are not hurtful to your turtles.

It wont harm your turtles but you should clean it.all you have to do is put your turtles in a bowl and rinse of the rocks.the green stuff is algae.if your tank is near a window algae will grow faster.

Hi, we put the stones out in the sunshine for the day and all the algae disappears like magic, no scrubbing needed :)

Like Nublet said don't use soap. If the rocks are small enough for your turtle to eat remove them all together because they can eat them and become impacted which can lead to death. If the rocks are large rocks then to remove the algae you can take them out of the tank and put them in a bucket with some bleach water. Let them soak for an hour or so and then rise them well or allow them to completely dry before putting them back in the tank.

How big is your turtle? The tank size should be 10 gallons for every inch of turtle shell, so if you have a 4 inch turtle you at the very least should have a 40 gallon tank which you will have to upgrade as they grow. For a Red Eared Slider I would get a 55 to 100 gallon tank because they grow to be 5 to 7+ inches.

The green slime is probably just algae and the best way to remove it would be to buy an algae eater. They can be purchased at walmart for $2-5. Snails also work to remove this unsightly slime but reproduce quickly so that's not always a good idea. Just remember, anything you put into the tank can become a meal for you turt. BTW, a 10 gal tank is very small for a turtle hope you're going to upgrade soon.

Once you clean the slime off, placing a few copper pennies in the water should prevent any more from growing. The pennies aren't toxic to the turtles either.

Boil the stones then let them cool before you put them back in the tank. That will kill the algea.
