  • There are a few Christian groups/denominations which have over the decades/centuries taken a consistent stand for pacificism. Members of these groups are allowed to take non-combat jobs if drafted in wartime. There may be non-Christian religious groups with similar consistent teaching against violence, members of which would recieve similar options. The Bible is not "against killing." It requires the killing of animals and actually calls for the death penalty for some crimes. Most Christian scholars recognize the concept of a "just war" (based on Bible precedents) which requires deadly force. The New Testament affirms the civil authority's use of "the sword" to enforce civil order. The Bible opposes murder which is usually defined by the intentional taking of innocent human life.
