Question

Help answer this question below.

Funny how the world works...I look around and see how society in wealthy countries are; with all our flashy cars and houses. Then I think and cringe at the thought of people starving in the poorer countries. Crying day by day - why is the world like this?

Why the world is like this...because too many people are watching. Stand up and do something about it!

The world is like this because people have freedom of choice and some of them choose to use their political/economic/military power to their own ends and not to the end of the greatest welfare of the greatest number of people.

You sound like a sensitive and ethical person. Remember that as only one person, you cannot help everybody but you can help someone. Choose a charity that speaks to your heart - whether hunger relief, medical care, whatever - and make regular donations to it. Even as little as 5 dollars a month can provide help for a starving child or seeds for a farmer to help overcome the effects of drought.

Once you are on the helping end, you won't feel so overwhelmed by the situation.

It is like this because we are flawed in some fundemental way when it comes to emphaty.
Emphaty seems - and this is just my opinion - to be a variable emotion.

I remember in my fire-brand youth railing on and on to an older friend of mine about the inappropriatness of neigbors who bought replacement luxury vehicles every year without fail - mercedes. jaguar, the occasonal Rolls etc - while 'people are starving for a crust - a literal crust!"

He smiled sadly (He it was who inspired me to do as he had done inhis life - quit trying to 'solve the problem' and use the time/energy to DO something about it) and said that the people who had that crust every day probably had the attitude to their neghbors who had running water as I had to mine with their vehicles...

It woke me up about the difference between 'feeling' and 'doing'.

Great question, and I suspect that it comes from a heart that is capable of 'doing' a lot in the context of my answer. : )

Well I guess everyone on this earth has different trials they have to go through. People in countries that starve have that as a trial, while people here who have a lot of money can have very trial, but they just don't deal with that stuff.

It really is a testament to at least fair minded governments versus insane dictators and warlords. Even with our issues in the US, for example, our government does not allow itself to bleed all our resources and leave us starving so the leader can have 15 casltes and 3000 wives, or whatever. Africa has been ravaged by warlords running nations and doing exactly that in many countries. They have rich resources in many places, yet cannot achieve a central government that is fair to its people. I know that the issue is complex with colonial powers, etc., but it is the same in North Korea, which is ridiculous considering how South Korea lives. Governments need to get right in many of these countries or no matter how much money is flung at these people, they never will see any help.

It's not for us to question the higher powers motives. The only person in this world you can change is you if donating money to causes like that make you feel good do it, hell give them your car and your house.

What are YOU doing to fix it? If you aren't doing anything, then you are no better than them. If you are, that's great. We need more people like you. But sitting around and wondering why things are the way they are does nothing to help those in need!
