Help answer this question below.
lack of confidence can also be a problem ... when you're on your own suddenly 'oh no, there is nobody else here for back up' so you tense, your mouth goes dry etc.
Is your home dusty or cold, or do you have flowers (pollen) or black mould caused by condensation? Or maybe the air in your home is dry because of heating or aircon. The humidity should be above 40%, you can check this out with a hygrometer (bought cheaply on ebay). These could all cause the mucus problem, either over-production or a drying out of the natural amount that should be there, making it thick. As you don't get the problem elsewhere then it is unlikely that your body is dehydrated from lack of water, unless you are drinking lots of coffee (which dehydrates you) at home while you are singing.
Warming up is a good thing always! This may sound weird but...what are you drinking before voice lessons/choir? And what are you drinking before you sing at home?
Different things that you drink can cause less or extra (depending on the drink) saliva. Try and keep it to mostly water before singing. And if you find your mouth getting dry while singing, sounds gross, but if you lick the teeth at the very back of your mouth it helps you produce saliva!
Hope that helps!
It could be nervousness. I think some fruit juice (especially citrus) would help cut the phlegm. Continual throat clearing actually makes your voice worse.
I understand your frustration. I get the same damn thing too! Although it is when i sing after a few songs no matter where I am. I end up with the tired voice you get when you first wake up. I keep clearing my throat to clear it but then it gets "coated" again and you can hear the raspyness of my voice. It pisses me off! My voice teacher doesn't know what the hell it is. She said I would have to go to a ear nose and throat doctor. No one seems to know what the hell they are talking about. AND IT IS NOT ALLERGIES!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're reading When I sing I get mucus in my throat and have to keep clearing my throat. I take singing lessons and choir but it doesn't seem to happen there. Only when I practice at home. I warm up too so what could be the problem?
