I am straight but had a best bud who was gay during my time in the army, we went through many tours of duty and i couldnt wish for a truer friend.

I'm sure some people would be able to do it. Honestly, I think I would feel too uncomfortable to hang out all the time with a gay man, unless I truly didn't know he was gay. I'm sure I'll get the "homophobic" crowd hammering me, but I am just trying to be honest. Just because I am uncomfortable around someone doesn't mean I hate them or want harm done to them. It is the same with religious folks different than me, I probably wouldn't hang out with a group of islamic fundamentalists either. Certain things make people uncomfortable, and homosexuality is one of those things for me.

I am gay and my best mate is straight. His GF is my best female friend. I hooked them up. He is the best mate anyone could ask for and he is totally comfotable around me because unlike a lot of gay guys Ive never tried to get in his pants. Even though I do think he is hot :) sometimes friendship is more important.

I had some really good gay friends in college. I haven't met that many since I've been out though.
