Go see the Doc, but in mean time, drink milk, chew on Mylanta tablets and cut down on spicy and or fatty foods. At night, use several pillows, that keeps your head above your stomach, so in other words, don't lie flat down in bed, raise you head above your body, the higher the better. If you have to burp, sit up and burp, then lay back down in the elivated possition.

My husband suffered for years without seeking a doctor's help! Pepto Bismol would help alot! The idea is to reduce the acid in your stomach. Also raise the head of your bed 4-6 inches. This will help keep the acid in your stomach where it belongs.

Please, please, please seek medical attention. My husband now has Barrett's Esophagus! The lining in his throat has changed. He now has procedures every year to keep an eye on it. The research I have done shows that in most people it turns cancerous.

Frank had a great answer. I have that too, whether it's acid reflux or heartburn. I recently had an upper GI done to see what's wrong (haven't got the results back yet). But I used Tums for a while, then was prescribed Zantac which helped, but not fully. And also, drinking colas aggravates it :( Which sucks for me cause I love diet pepsi lol. Milk helps as he said, it helps coat the esophagus and stomach. And I found often that lying down flat aggravated it too; I've often had to sleep on my side because of it. Weird.

Liquid antacids to coat the esophagus. Don't lie down flat. Get some meds from the doctor, such as Zantac, that will stop the stomach from producing the acid. +5

I have it badly too. Have a Mylanta tablet and eat some dry biscuits. Also milk is good because it builds up mucus and then the acidic saliva isn't so burny on your throte. I'm sorry you suffer with it too =( it sucks! But there is regular medication that I now take for it, It's called Somac and it works wonders for me! Goodluck and hope you get better soon!!

I have chronic heartburn and take Nexium, which really makes Life so much better. Before that, I learned a little trick about baking soda that provided instant relief...1/4 tsp in a 1/2 cup of water, stirred til the water is clear, then drink. Instant relief plus a burp to clear the gas from your stomach that is pushing the acid up the esophagus. The directions are usually on an Arm & Hammer box of baking soda and be sure to follow the instructions closely...too much baking soda can have an equally bad result. See a doctor as soon as possible to prevent/treat further injury. Cancer of the esophagus would be no laughing matter. Good luck.;-)
