i don't know. I would liketo learn how to speak more languages. Because it seems as tho English isn't the only language you need anymore. Also you get paid more at a job if you are bi-lingual. I am up learning every language if i could.

Jaja, but 'bilingual' is code for 'Spanish'. Trust me, I know people who have worked in call centers who knew Russian, Italian, German, Portuguese and it did not factor at all in their hiring. Spanish increased hiring about double. This is merely a fact and reflection on the needs of customers today. I don't have time to learn to re-learn Spanish, it bores me.. I'm busy with German and Italian.

I do speak German as a second language, and will soon learn French and Spanish. I don't know what the rest of the country's problem is. =P

With the growing population of Amish & Mennonite in the Eastern US. Also, with Californias Governor & the Art Colony in Los Angeles & the fact that German is one of the most popular 4 langauges other than english taught in schools.Finally, The Germans in Germany themselves call the English language Low German.So,I would'nt stay up nights worrying about it.

I think it makes no sense if Americans would speak German as a second language. I do not see a reason why the should. German is only spoken in Europe and after my opinion German is too difficult that foreigners ever will learn. Most Germans understand English and that should be enough. Americans should better learn Spanish or French. And I rarely met an American or Englishman who spoke that much and good German that a conversation was possible. I think therefore it is enough if the Germans speak German and it would be not helpful if foreigners learn German. Quite different it is with those who want to live in Germany. So I am clearly against any effort outside of Germany making our language more popular.

Because Spanish & French are more likely to be used here. Spanish, because of central & south American immigrants. French, because of French Canadians and French speaking African immigrants.

I can count on my elbow the number of times I've met a german who doesn't speak english. Compare that to spanish.........(get it? Elbow? It has no fingers? So, i've never met a german who didn't speak english? It was funny in my head!)

I'm not sure why the US is so language impaired. Arrogant perhaps? Other countrys don't seem to have a probem accepting that they need to learn to communicate to other people in other tongues. I love learning other languages but learned spanish first because it would be needed more in my area. I am glad I did. I still have never needed to speak German. Lo Siento.

It's not practical. Outside of Germany, there is very little use for it. I lived in Germany and rarely had to use it. Unlike France and Spain, there are not a lot of former colonies speaking German either. If one were to dedicate the time and effort to learning a second language, there are many that are more useful. I'm not sure if German would make my top five of most useful second languages for a US citizen. I in the US, Spanish,French, Japanese, Mandarin, Hindi, Russian, Korean and even Arabic would probably be more valuable.

I think because it is an extremely difficult language and on the other side an extremely unimportant language. Why should Americans learn German? There is no need at all for them and so it is reasonable that nobody is interested to learn a rather unimportant and useless language.

As far as I can see there is nobody in the USA who thinks that more Americans should speak and learn German. I think it makes no sense at all if Americans would learn and speak German. They better learn Spanish or other languages and I am generally against that foreigners learn German. It is more than enough if Germans speak German and for other people there is no need to teach them. Foreigners should not learn German.

Why should Americans learn a foreign language? English is spoken in Northern America and so there is not any need that any American should speak just German which is the language of their enemy. Speaking English, an American never needs to learn another language. So it is nothing but a waste of time learning such a stupid language which is even the language of an enemy country.

For Americans I think German is absolutely useless. Why should Americans learn German? It makes much more sense to learn Spanish. And in Canada as well as in the USA they speak English and some French. So French would even make more sense. But German would be just a waste of time.
