In collage my husband had to write an answer to the question (why?) on one of his finales. how would you answer this?

Why? What an open ended question. Need more data.

If that is all there is to the question, "Why?", then I would probably answer with something like "Because" or "Why not?" On the other hand, if the question was clearly in reference to another question, then I would probably try to give a more complete answer. Simply asking "Why" doesn't give me enough to go on to give more than a flippant answer.
