What's up with people and "driveby downratings"? Seen several times that someone answers a question properly, with helpful info or advice, only to get downrated for no reason? What does this accomplish for the one giving the -?

I suppose the person who Dr'd doesn't agree or they have no control over anything else in their lives and it's fun for them. According to MidnightToker, they get hurt by the DR, too. In the immortal words of Nelson Muntz "Ha Ha".

There is a word in Rromanes that pretty much covers people who do this: "mindj". It is not a nice word and the more "acceptable" part of its meaning is "coward". "Weak" also fits in there but the full definition is a bit, well, coarse. Driveby downraters are just like little bullies who are afraid to do it to someone's face. They do not have the courage to say why they do it. They are just trolls. Pay them no heed like a mindj truly deserves. I am certain to be hit with a bunch of driveby negs after this answer. *shrugs*

I think that they are unhappy people in life who get some sense of 'power' being able to do this. Like somebody is finally listening to them --or some such desperation.

I have had some DR's but the upgrades far outweight them,just ignore them!!!!!!!

It doesn't make any sense, does it? When there is a comment that explains the downrating, there is a chance of improvement. The minus points don't tell us anything.

These days I get several or more a day, mostly on opinion based questions where there are no wrong answers. Frankly anyone who down rates and doesn't at least say why is a coward in my book. But when all is said and done, I enjoy answering questions and asking a few and the down rates don't really matter.

I think there are a lot of people with emotional issues that use a DR to get back at someone. Or that is their way of being heard in society because nobody pays them enough attention. I DR rarely and usually let the person know why. Unless their answer is just so bad then I just DR and not bother, I figure they will realize how poor their answer or advice is.

My best guess = self-loathing. Ignorant and/or undereducated folks without imaginations feel a little superior temporarily when they shit on others' work, especially when they can do that anonymously.

I really get pissed when someone repeatedly downrates without a comment. But the cowards do that on purpose, if they would leave a comment you would know who they are and then they wouldn't be cowards any more...

well it had happened to me also.infact it does make me upset when a person downrated a good question or answer.anyways i can explain you in few words. more success==more enemies,especially when the graph of your success is continuously towards upside in short span.

Meh, no big deal. If the worse they can do to you is downrate you, I would consider them completly harmless.

I couldn't care less why they do it, but I have a message for them: The fact remains that it is against AB policy to DR for anything other than an abusive or spamming answer. If anybody else DR's me for any other reason I will gladly hand your ass over to a CL and let them handle you. They CAN and DO trace DR's, be nice - or else I WON'T.

Where did you read that? I cant find it. I just got dr'd 5ptd for my opinion. I wasnt being rude or wise with the answer. I know it doesnt matter but, It still erks me.
