I've been using GoDaddy for years to register my domains. They have competitive prices and you can even get discounts by searching google for 'GoDaddy promo code'. But I must say, Godaddy is not always the best choice for hosting your website. There are better deals out there such as HostGator.com.
I'm with http://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/default.asp
They have nice prices, great customer service and support, and some pretty usable programs for people who aren't good with computers or don't know how to program.
Best place is no place, get a hosting account with a good provider like freehistia or bluehost and let them offer you hosting and the domain name. It's a few pence dearer but they'll handle it all for you.
Godaddy.com and other like it are buggers to deal with for hosting
I used 1and1 for my wife's but we've never really made use of the site itself. Just wanted the name. Unfortunately I did not think to do the same early on and so I lost the one I wanted.
