  • A constellation is a group of stars that seems to make a picture. However, all of the stars that we can see with the unaided eye are part of the Milky Way Galaxy (the galaxy which also contains our own solar system). So, no the Milky Way is not part of a constellation. The constellations are all part of the Milky Way.
  • The Milky way is far, far bigger than the constellations. The constellations are made up of stars mostly less than 1000 light years away; the Milky Way Galaxy is about 80,000 light years across.
  • The visible band of the Milky Way appears to run through the zodiacal constellations, because the galaxy is roughly in the same plane as the solar system. The brightest part is in Sagittarius, where the center of the galaxy lies.
  • maybe it could be part of one with all the surrounding galaxies!! who knows what it'd look like though :) but in the mean time, you can look at the constellations in the milky way :)
