  • My old neighbors threw parties all of the time. I wouldn't care if it was a Friday or Saturday night. I'm not a prude. But EVERY night of the week became too much. Once at 4am I walked over to thier condo in my slippers (classy, I know!), and told them if they didn't stop, I would wake them up at 9am, when I had to go to work. They didn't stop. So the next morning, I turned up my T.V. and radio as loud as it would go until they came over and apologized. It never happened again.
  • Depends on the time of day. Generally if they're getting to the point that it's bothering me, I'll go knock on their door and ask them to please keep it down. If they continue, I call the cops.
  • My neighbour has a grown up son who insisted on playing the bass guitar very loudly and very badly, I bought a teach yourself bass book and knocked on his door, i told him if he was going to play the damn thing at least have the decency to do it well...that was the end of that lol
  • During the daytime, I am tolerant of noise, because I realize that in cities some noise is inevitable. But, I draw the line at night. Disturb my sleep, and I call the police. That always works.
  • My neighbor inflicted the most horrible noise on every summer for four years. He would open his swimming pool, turn on a radio very loudly and leave it permanently on. I called the police untill they got sick of coming over, contacted City Hall to see if they could stop him and went to an Attorney to see if I could bring a 'private nusiance' lawsuit against him all to no avail. At best, the radio would be turned off for an hour, or ten minutes or maybe even a couple of days after a visit from the police - but this guy has some kind of mental compulsion to do whatever he wants to do and the heck with the neighbors. It got to where my stomach would churn, the closer swimming pool season would get here....I started spenmding less and less time at home and let my bleoved garden go to seed. Then I had a brilliant idea - especially for someone as stupid as me for taking so long to come up with the obvious answer. I researched the BEST earplugs/protectors on the market and purchased a variety of them to cover all possible scenarios (ie LOUD music, lower but even more irritating 'talk radio' shows, Loud music but must know when someone is coming up my driveway etc etc. I certainly looked odd with the most usual combination I wore - earplugs rated for 29 decibels combined with Ear Muffs rated for 24 - and my son was rather embarrassed for me, but you know what? I couldn't hear the damn radio and was at peace with my environment. The really ironic part is, once the miscreant stopped having the 'fun' fo me calling the police/complaining to him/my neglecting my garden and generally being able to control my peace of mind - he got bored and quit. I however, continue to wear ear protection as I found that I very much enjoyed the peace and quite and had never realised just how 'noisy' the modern world is at the bet of times. I would like to add, I have never missed hearing anything I wanted to by doing this. My research paid off in that I have a precise system setting the levels I need to hear at, or not. I do symphatise with your situation - those who have never endured it cannot really understand how nerve-wracking it is, I hope I have helped.
  • My neighbour woke me up EVERY morning, at 4am as well, with this awful, wracking cough. It sounded like he was being sick it was so bad. I bought a bottle of cough medicine and left it on his doorstep
  • I try to be mellow about my neighbors noise I I would expect the same in return. The occasional latenight celebration or whatever may be annoying but acceptable. If they are doing crazy things at odd hours, or having frequent loud events, I would probably try talking with them about it first, and if they didn't attempt to control the noise then the only other thing to do is to call the police when they are raging on at 3am.
  • There's not much you can do before 11pm, I would try talking to them before contacting authorities...Then again I have called on a neighbor's barking dog during the day so they might have an excess law during the day
  • I have a similar issue with a nieghbour and AM radio all day long in her garden. I was thinking of getting an AM radio transmitter and turning it on when the Greek Gregorian Chants are in full 'song' on Sunday mornings! I know it's possibly not legal, but I speaking to her directly only worked for one Sunday and I don't want to go down the path of arguing with us hating each other! Any ideas?
  • truth is, loud pool noise during the day is perfectly acceptable it ruins your life and the neighbors dont care basically, people dont care about other people nothing you can do city councils could care less to initiate an ordinance (minority of population impacted by pool noise)
  • I am 2 feet away from my neighbors..Their deck is one foot from mine, I can't say much because we are in such close quarters. Unless they start to fight, then I go out and yell at them...We don't live in the inter city either. This is a residential neighborhood that was developed 113 years ago, by an ass. "Oh they'll like to be real close":(
  • its acceptable once in a while but within reason,my next door neighbour used to continue there night out when they got home 30 odd people in there loud music the other neighbours all bashing his door telling them to turn it down madness in a 2 bedroom flat with thin walls.also people selling drugs and loads of people in and out drunk people kicking front doors in,19 flats all close together the owners have since turfed them out installed cctv and security doors in the building its so common in the south of england its a little bit better now, but at weekends people just seem to go on a drunken rampage through the streets at night I think the police have too much to do unless its seriously out of control.
  • but what do you do when your neighbor with a pool has lots of social activities at their pool (ie. a party pool) and you suffer as a neighbor continually and the town has no rules to protect you what action can you take?? can you get on the roof of you garage and watch your neighbor to annoy them whenever there is lots of noise? can you post a banner sign saying 'hey, love the pool noise' can you shout to get them to be quiet when they have pool parties what actions can you take??? you pay so much money for your property and then you have neighbors who destroy it for you
  • I live in an apratment and the couple up stairs speaks spanish. Late at night they like to rearrange the furniture and get in LOUD arguments. I'm talking about 2 or 3 in the morning. They also have let many of their friends or family move in with them so now its like a herd of elephants stomping around over my head. I have written them a couple of letters in spanish and also spoken to the wife personally about the disturbances. Neither worked. I am now in the process of writing to the rental office and because of my complaint they could be fined up to $150.
  • you have a nice peaceful backyard and then the neighbors build a pool and simply destroy your ability to enjoy you backyard you could tell them to be quiet but the fact is they are noisy to begin with and really dont care about you when i am in my backyard i am mindful of not being too noisy in fear it would irritate the neighbors but there are people who simply have no regard for others; are there aware they are making others miserable? are they saying they have every right to be noisy if they want to difficult to comprehend why people can be sooo rude the ability to have quiet enjoyment of one's property is not possible. something about this is simply wrong. are there any towns that have noise ordinances addressing neighbor noise during the day?
  • To the point when i hear their voices in my home more than the people that are in it. Thin walls are not their fault. But i shouldn't HAVE to tell you you are being too loud. That is obvious unless you're deaf and they are not. People are perfectly aware when they are being idiots and the kind of people that are loud... simply dont care.
  • Sometimes the rhicter scale feels like its a 10.5 or more. And the whole house shakes and the windows rattle. When it gets too much, I open my window, turn up the volume to 100%, and play "Through the Fire and Flames", or Crazy Train on my Guitar Hero. It works eeverytime hahaha.
  • I had the same problem; our upstairs neighbors were into loud stomping and furniture dragging on a 24 hour basis so I decided to wear this t-shirt for a few days, making sure the whole neighborhood got to see it..including the upstairs neighbors of course...it actually helped, the noise level has dropped considerably. http://www.creaturesontshirts.com/neighbor.html
  • Listen in on them and continue what I was doing. Why let it bother me.
  • When they continue to shoot their guns past dark, too much for me there, what do I do,call them and explain the problem, out here most of us are good folks,we can accept neighborly criticism, even the gun boys.
  • I am hard of hearing and I never hear outside noise On our honey moon my wife and I were *resting* and she started to laugh~~ and I said *what ? what*? and she said the couple next door are having sex and they are very noisy~~~shucks I miss all the good stuff but sometimes its a blessing in a noisy environment
  • Our police use this rule of thumb ... if someone's noise is interferring with anyone else's right to enjoy the quiet privacy of their own home, the noise it too loud. You should first try to explain the problem to the offending neighbor. Sometimes they don't even realize they're creating a problem and will stop. But, if they act like they just don't care and continue ... and you can't stand it ... you need to get an intermediary to help solve the problem ... like the police.
