  • Hmmmmm. Those are no the states I would have chosen, at least not the Maine one. I would say Idaho for russets and New York or waxy potatoes or chipping potatoes.
  • I didn't know they grew potatoes in Maine, I thought they grew lobsters there. So I will have to say Idaho for potatoes.
  • Idahofor potatos,Naine for lobster!!
  • Idaho. no contest. period. why do you think McDonalds gets the potatoes for their fries from Idaho? cuz our spuds are the bomb!
  • Many states grow many different crops to some extent or another. So you could say that most states in the country grows at least some potatoes. But to consider it an industry depended on by the entire state, there are only two options: Idaho and Maine. Actual potato-wise, varieties grown in both states have their pros and cons. Idaho potatoes are much bigger compared to those from Maine, thus being a more economically viable choice for big industry mass production (such as your fast food fries), and better for long term storage and baking. That is every reason why you are more familiar with them—more advertising dollars, longer storage life for bigger distribution area, etc.) Maine potatoes tend to be smaller, thinner skinned, better for boiling, mashing, and in popular opinion of those familiar with both versions, much more flavorful. Obviously, Maine has been growing potatoes practically since before the white man set foot in what is now Idaho. The tradition was carried to Maine from French-Acadian settlers fleeing from British deportation and murder in Prince Edward Island in Canada, through Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, leaving a wake of potato farming along the way. This was a vital survival crop for the Acadians, those of which who were able to survive war and the brutal Maritime winters. We have a lot of emotion that goes with the history of the industry here in Maine. So...based on deliciousness, the most important reasoning with food, it's Maine and the Canadian Maritimes all the way!---And to those of you wanting to try a Maine potato, just look for the packaging with red, white and blue printing with the State of Maine on the side! Bon appetit!
  • Neither. Ireland.
  • It depends on what you're doing with 'em. Idaho for bakers and fries. Maine potatoes are best suited for potato chips. Anything can be mashed up nice with the right seasonings.
  • I am not sure, but I do know that contestants in beauty pageants would much prefer to wear a banner that says 'Maine' than 'Idaho'.
