Do you think it's alright to offer advice on topics about which the answerer has basically no expertise?

as long as they don't claim to be an expert...this isn't a site for expert advice necessarily.

I have assumed there is no legal liability to responders on AB. If I am wrong this website is toast.

Why would someone do that? If you lack expertise in the area, leave it alone. I don't know why people offer up advice on subjects they're ill equipped to comment on other than to hear themselves talking or sounding intelligent. It's not helpful to anyone when you provide misleading information.

The recipient should know better. He/she should take advice and pointers!. He/she should not blindly take what a total stranger tells them, otherwise they r an idiot! AN answwer can sometimes be guidance rather than direction.!
