  • "Religion" is defined as a belief by an individual or group in a supernatural power(s) and usually also includes the concept of a personal or institutionalized system grounded in such belief and worship [The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition; Copyright © 2000 by Houghton Mifflin Company.] The question was not "how many TRUE religions are there". An argument could be made that the number of religions in the world would be equal to the number of humans alive over some arbitrary age. This is not, of course, a very helpful answer. Adherents.com says; "Adherents.com is a growing collection of over 41,000 adherent statistics and religious geography citations -- references to published membership/adherent statistics and congregation statistics for over 4,200 religions, churches, denominations, religious bodies, faith groups, tribes, cultures, movements, ultimate concerns, etc. " There are a number of difficulties when you attempt to count religions: 1. Agreeing on a definition of "religion" as opposed to 'spirituality', 'faith', etc. 2. Is Christianity a single religion or should each denomination be counted? 3. How do you search out all the religions when many do not build special buildings and may be located in seldom visited places? Additionally, few researchers can overcome the thinking which sees : "my religion, your mythology and his superstitions". http://www.religioustolerance.org/worldrel.htm lists 16 religious divisions, not counting "no religion". Their list is easy to argue with. The bottom line, obviously, is that there is no accurate answer to your question.
  • Really probably just three. One that follows God's way. One that follows man's way. One that follows Satan's way. However, the one that follows man's way, is supported by Satan's way. So probably just two.
  • i think there are just 2 groups of churches in the world now. The one which follows the doings of man and Satan vs. the one that follows God and his commandments. I have been reviewing churches and to conclusion that the Seventh Day Adventist Church has a sound doctrine. Most things I have evaluated are really in line with the scriptures.. I used to really wonder about this lady called Ellen G White trully. But after reading her books, you will not spend a long time without realizing that the woman was a great author and trully inspired. Nothing that I've read so far contradicts the Bible at all. I have been a Catholic all my life but now I see that it not a church of God. Someone is beyond the ruling of this mighty church. Is all about confusion and doctrines of man... Many issues I'm telling you...Like for example: the Bible does not mention that when people die go straight to heaven or hell (pargutory as they call it). Nothing like that is written... SO I'm trully convienced that there are only two churches or religions in the world. Al the other believes are too carzy to even term them religion. And they are all the daughters and cousins of the Catholic Church.
  • new religions are made almost every day.
  • As many as there are people...
  • Quite a few, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_religions_and_spiritual_traditions. The major ones I know are... Monotheism: Judaism, Christianity, Islam. Polytheism: Hinduism. Atheism: Buddhism, (Taoism?).
  • There's enough for every person to have her own.
  • Approximately 6.7 billion.
  • There are 3 major religions with at least 1 billion followers - Christianity, Islam, and Hinduism (of which Buddhism may or may not be considered an offshoot).
  • More than I would want to count. But there is only one that the Bible calls PRUE Religion. And its in the Book of James Chapter 1 V-27.............M.C.S.
  • It is impossible to accurately predict the number of religions. There are many small, isolated religions in certain parts of the world. Groups living in areas that hinder communication and interaction often tend to be small..thus preventing diffusion from occuring.
  • The latest update I believe is around 19 major and about 10,000 divisions of these.
  • As many fights/wars/battles in the world.
  • They are too numerous and changing to accurately keep track of. But today's standard should be the brotherhood of man based on the divine love of God for all mankind and there would be less wars.
