What is the etymology of the word patoot?

    I learned that it is a shorter form of patootie and that's been around since the 20s and may have come from sweet potato as in "My sweet patootie.

    equivalent because they are labials.

    In Telugu language of India, "Muddi" means butt.
    "M" and "B" are equivalent because they are labials.

    patootie
    "sweetheart, pretty girl," colloquial Amer.Eng., 1921, perhaps a corruption of potato (esp. sweet potato).
