Why do some people say that when there is a full moon that people go crazy and more crimes are committed?

I am not sure it the trend has been validated or not but the events that lead up to this go back a couple centuries. People noticed that certain types of people would become more uncontrolable when the moon was full. They were called "Moon Struck" and unaffected people gathered them up. The "Loonies" (from the French word for Moon, Lune) were then segregated from general society in hospitals. The hospitals eventually became known as "loonie bins", the local term for mental health hospitals. If you ever doubt the existance of the effect, visit your local alzeimers ward in the summer, when the moon is full.
