  • I think it isn't so much society we are disconnecting from, I think it is ourselves. We are pushing further and further internally to dissociate ourselves from other people. Thereby losing the spirit of togetherness that is to be human.
  • I find society to be completely intolerable at times, so I'm happy to isolate myself with a book or my iPod. I'd rather listen to music than hear someone banter on endless about themselves and their cars and all that.
  • Yes and yes. Don't forget about the hand held video games also. This is happening everywhere, smaller cities too.
  • Yes, I notice this people in there own little worlds. Some times technology and entertainment can distract people like people that go on a date watch a movie they dont get to know each other they are not talking to each other or making eye contact. Going on a date and eating you are not supose to talk while you eat you can choke and you really dont get to really get to know them.Ipods, MP3, Laptops coffee shops sitting around normaly people by themselves.Reading a book in the libary you cant talk there, reading a book at the book store, you are supose to work at your jobs not really talk, people sit behind cubeicles all day, computers, ATMs,It seems to me like it is becomeing more of a faster world were there is never anought time for people to get a chance to know any one anymore and I think a lot of people dont trust others as much do to the news and tv maybe. I think that maybe the case.
  • I actually notice that more and more. Just tonight, in fact, when we went out for my partner's birthday. There was a couple at the next table with their 2 daughters. The youngest 10-12, the oldest I'd say in her mid teens. The older one was eating with one hand, and text-messaging with the other on her cell phone she was holding in her lap. She was looking down at her phone the entire time. Not looking or even talking to anyone at the table. Isolated? Or just rude? If I were one of her parents I'd have told her put the phone away while we were having a family dinner.
  • yes i find that. I don't use my cell phone much, and i don't really have any other handheld distractions. when i'm out i tend to just observe people without judgement.. :)
