grate fresh ginger, add hot water and honey to taste.

Also, herbal tea "Traditional Medicinals - Throat Coat" will do the trick temporarily.

avoid alcohol and caffeine. they are diuretics.

The important thing with a sore throat is to stay hydrated. run a humidifier or vaporizer while you sleep. If you breathe with your mouth open at night, and it's dry, you'll just aggravate things.

Take 2 aspirin and gargle with warm salt water.

I agree with Babycakes...Gargle with warm salt water. Chloraseptic helps too although it tastes gross, it numbs your throat. If you start to run a fever make sure you see a doctor. It could become serious.

Well, they do make lozenges but I was talking about the spray. It's a liquid that comes in a spray bottle. You spritz it in your mouth.

Hot tea with lemon, vitamin C lozenges if these don't work than Robitussin.

It tastes nasty but works without fail:

1 cup water as hot as you can stand to gargle with
3 t apple cider vinegar
1 t honey

Gargle with this. Use the entire cup.

You could crush 1000 mg of Vitamin C and drink it in tea with a little honey.
