  • ...the Red Ring of Death approaches you... Call Microsoft ASAP.
  • Sections 1, and 3 are flashing red - Overheating Alternatively Overheating can be cause by the console locking up or "freezing" after a set amount of time. Lockups that occur at a specific point in a game are generally problems with the game itself and not caused by overheating. THINGS TO TRY 1. Let the Xbox 360 console cool. Note You may have to wait several hours for the console to cool enough. Do not turn on the console when the console is hot. 2. Verify that the console has sufficient ventilation and that the fan is operating. PREVENTION SUGGESTIONS To try to prevent this problem, use the following precautions: * Do not block any ventilation openings on the Xbox 360 console. * Do not put the Xbox 360 console on a bed, on a sofa, or on any other soft surface that may block ventilation openings. * Do not put the Xbox 360 console in a confined space, such as a bookcase, a rack, or a stereo cabinet, unless the space is well-ventilated. * Do not put the Xbox 360 console near any heat source, such as a radiator, a heat register, a stove, or an amplifier. DO NOT EVER PUT YOUR CONSOLE IN THE FREEZER OR OUT IN COLD WEATHER Some people think that doing this might help "fix" an overheating console, in fact doing so could cause even bigger problems. Electronic devices like your console are made to function at and around room temperature, extreme cold temperatures can often cause just as many problems as extreme warm temperatures (such as overheating). Also if the console is located in a dramatically cold area while running, the difference in temperature between the hot console and cold air can create condensation which in turn will short out your console making the situation far worse. Condensation will happen more quickly if your console is overheating due to the greater difference in temperature. In short... DON'T DO IT. A more aggressive Solution to overheating is to improve the cooling system of the console. The best solution is to replace the thermal compound. If you attempt this you do so at your own risk. If you're console is still under warranty it is recommended that you contact MS for a replacement before attempting to fix it yourself.
  • i have the same problem your xbox 360 is overheating dont know how to fix it though. • Don't woory the exact same thing happend to me. The proplem is overheating. Here is two things you can do. 1# You can let the xbox 360 cool down for a couple of hours. After it cools down, make sure your xbox 360 is standing right-side up so more air can through in and out the fans. Then to make sure it won't happen again. You are going to have to cut down you playing hours. 2# This I recommened. You can buy a intercooler fan for the xbox 360 which prevents overheating and you can still play for hours and hours without overheating. This is what I did and it worked GREAT!!. I hope this helped you it did for me.
  • I have a similar problem. I recently got gta 4 and now the problem is occuring more often. coincidence? I don't know. So I will turn on the console (it is on a stand which allows air to flow through, the power bar is on an angle so that it does not overheat.) and start playing gta, I'm into it for 5 minutes, and I feel the back, the air is fairly warm, not too hot. So for about 5 or 10 minutes later, the console will just shut off, displaying the two red lights. Feeling the back, the air is still warm, not hot, and the system itself is lukewarm. the fans will stay on for about a minute then shut off. this has been happening for two days. I try it once a day, wait till next day, same results. I'm not doing the damned towel trick, that will just cause a larger problem. I've voided my warranty, not noticing that when you take the sticker out from underneath the faceplate, you have voided it. So, now I'm stuck trying to find someone I know to have a look at the inside. I also may note that recently my mom had stepped on my 360 (horizontal) as I was playing COD4, but the console worked fine hours after. If anyone has a similar situation, please let me know what I can do to fix the problem. I've searched other forums and the complaints have been vague so I'm not sure if the solutions apply, or there is something different I have to do. Because I can't send it in!
  • get a ps3 problem solved lol
  • sounds like if you want it to turn off then you do it manually... look up how to restore factory defaults/firmware update
  • Alright i had this same problem right now...so i checked the microsoft website and they said(regardless if 3 quadrarents or 2 quads are blinking red)that your xbox power supply should be glowing green well mine was glowing orange so you should try(after powering up your system and after it blinks red) 1:Turn it off 2:Unplug the plug from the wall socket FIRST 3:Unplug from your system the power cord 4:Replug the wall socket back in then your system. If it doesnt work and youve tried everything else i'd have to say your system is fried ):
  • Two lights on the left is overheating, only covered by 1 year warranty not the three year! If the thermastat is dusty it will make it overheat more often, blow out the air holes with a dust blower, it may help, keep it well ventelated, alot of dust usually causes this.
  • i found out that the best way to fix the 2 red light problem is to first go to google and find out how to open up the 360 properly, once u know that then open it up get a hoover and hoover all the dust from inside and wipe everything down with a dry cloth.Especially where the two cooling fans are. Please note that if u do open it to do this that it breaks any warranty u have on your xbox but wot the hell its fixed. The reason for the two red lights is the console is over heating,In my case i found out that my cooling fans were clogged with black dust which actually stopped them from working, ever since i did this techniche myself my 360 has never had the 2 red light problem again and everything works much better .So my motto is fuck xbox and do it yourself its a whole lot cheaper. If u need more help email me my address is joey-crafty@hotmail.co.uk
