Why do people have white semi-circles at the base of each nail?

    The semi-circle at the base of nail is also called the nail Moon, the "real" name is called lunule which is the crescent-shaped area at the base of the human fingernail. Small or not moons may indicate low metabolism while large moonsmay indicate an active metabolism. The white half-moon is due to nail cells of the lunula area that are not fully mature, keratinized, and differentiated. The size and shape of the lunula is very individual and varies in each finger of every individual. In some people it is well marked while in other persons it is undefined or hazy. The lunula tends to disappear in as we get older
