Madame Tussauds is a wax museum in London, England, with branches in Amsterdam, Hong Kong (Victoria Peak), Las Vegas and New York. Wax figures of the Tussauds include historical and royal figures, film stars, sports stars and famous murderers. Madame Tussaud is Marie Tussaud, born in Strasbourg on 1 December 1761. She had a lot of talent for the art of wax modelling, and made wax figures of Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Voltaire and Robespierre. During the French Revolution she was arrested on suspicion of royalist sympathies and barely escaped the guillotine. In 1802 Marie Tussaud moved to London, where she died in 1850.
