I prefer to do the answers myself without help, however I guess it may expand your knowledge and also assist you in entering competitions for prizes?

I think it would be a good way of learning..expanding your vocabulary. One uses the dictionary when playing Scrabble all the time..well, I guess when a word is challenged, that's when the dictionary comes into play. Unless it's some sort of competition, I think using a thesaurus or dictionary would be helpful in getting better and doing better in the future. :)

definetely a boring activity for me...and yes, it's cheating

Crossword puzzles are great brain exercise and learning tool. Whatever it takes to sharpen the mind is all to the good. if the new knowledge "sticks" is the important thing.
-
I would call that learning.
-
I love learning new words and often use the thesaurus and regular dictionary as well. its not a game where cheating hurts anyone it is like solitaire and everyone cheats at that.

It is a kind of soft cheating, but, it is great if he/she feels fine with his activity. Why should we judge on him/her? He/she learns from it anyway.
-
I don't really find anything wrong with that kind of 'cheating'.
-
If HIS objective, when he started the puzzle, was to complete it without any help, then he is cheating. It doesn't sound like that's the case. Hang in there, Mom. It could be a Playboy magazine.

Not really, you still have to choose among the choices given, and some might be very similar. It's a lot more enlightening than looking at the answer.

I think it's ok to use a thesarus, but only as a last resort. I always try to figure it out first, but if I can't get it I eventually go to the thesarus or dictionary. Otherwise the puzzle remains unfinished. Doesn't mean they can't, I just don't see the point of immediately cracking the book open without at least attempting it without the book first.
