Heathen is a general term for anyone that is not a Christian. It is the equivalent among Christians of gentile or infidel among the Jews and Muslims respectively. However, heathen has mostly fallen into disuse among Christains.

Athiest is the "religion" of people that do not believe in any kind of God. Agnostic is the "religion" of people that do not know if there is any kind of God. I personaly am an Agnostic with slight edges towards Athiest. Neither of which, I have been informed on here, are actual religions, just a word for peoples beliefs.

Here is a definition from Encarta: http://ca.encarta.msn.com/dictionary_1861617094/heathen.html 1. an offensive term that deliberately insults somebody who does not acknowledge the God of the Bible, Torah, or Koran 2. an offensive term that deliberately insults somebody's way of life, degree of knowledge, or nonbelief in religion. Just curious, "Anything goes" as a practice??? How long do you think humanity would exist if the entire population would take this as a template to live buy? Would you like to experience "anything goes" on a receiving end, or only on dispatching end of your substance?

No. Heathen is a word used by Christians to mean non-Christians of any faith. It is an archaic term- if used now it would only be with sarcasm or with idiocy.

i don't think it would be considered a religion.

No. Atheism and Agnosticism are the "religions" of non-belief. Generally, a heathen is one who adheres to a religion that does not acknowledge the God of Judaism, Christianity, or Islam. Using this definition, the adherents of Buddhism, Hinduism, Sikhism, Scientology, and Neo-Pagans would be considered "heathens." Most of these believers are people of great faith and have a moral code (anything does not go). With love in Christ.

No. "Heathen" refers to a person, and there is no religion of "Heathenism" or similar. By definition, a heathen is a person who does not worship the god of the Bible. Therefore, anyone not of an Abrahamic religion is a "heathen". This hardly equates to absence of belief, or ethics. In fact, if you compare the histories, there's no contest when it comes to bloodshed and carnage (hint: the comparison isn't favorable to the Abrahamic religions). Thus, I think you would be well-advised to not cast aspersions as you do. I strongly suggest you get yourself a dictionary, or avail yourself of one of the free online ones. http://www.merriamwebster.com/dictionary/heathens

I would regard it as a pejorative, an unkind term for anyone that is not your religion. It is better to call them by the name of their religion, not an all-inclusive term like "heathen" that is so negative. It rates with "infidel" and "Kafir" and "outcaste".

Heathenry in modern usage refers to the indigenous religions of the Germanic peoples. Today it includes those who follow Asatru, Imrinism, and also Theodism, and probably others I've forgotten ;) They are branches of the same religious tradition, and may even worship together. Some of the terminology differs, much like it does between ancient Greek and Roman deities. So in Asatru the chief god is called Odin, but in Imrinism he's called Woden, and in Anglo-Saxon paganism he's called Wotan. Likewise for Thor, who's also called Thunar and Donar.
