ANSWERS: 14
  • I'd say between 15 and 16 , they know right from wrong at least by then - my thoughts only
  • Kids are more smarter than ever these days, and more dangerous than they ever were. Fifteen at least, we already have juvenile facilities to put them in, so age shouldn't be an issue, commit a crime do the time.
  • Ideally I would say 18. But that may not make sense for someone who's 15 or 16 that has been in trouble numerous times for minor offenses, and than commits a much more severe crime. I think the judges have a lot to consider. When they have a juvenile that hasn't learned from previous chances to straighten out there act. But get progressively worse in the types of trouble get into. That's a tough one. I don't really have the answer.
  • well seeing its the U.S and they MUST lock someone up for something lets make it ....12y's old ....but your not adult enough to buy a beer because they say you not old enough...still a kid... so lets make it 21
  • 13 or 14.....I think kids have grown up faster and faster then back in the day and their maturity level (or immaturity level) should be taken into account as well. Let's stop molly-coddling these criminals and make them pay for their misdeeds.
  • I'd have to say 16. Although most kids don't always think before they act, by 16 you should definitely know right from wrong.
  • I think by the age of 13 you pretty much know that what you do has consequences ....and if they had no consequences when they were growing up then they need to have a punishment to fit their crime. To show them early on that you cannot get away with just a slap on the wrist but to pay with time in a camp of some sort for juveniles.
  • 14 is old enough
  • When I was 8 or 9 years old I knew what was acceptable and legal behaviour. I knew it was wrong to steal or kill and I knew what the punishment would be. I don't believe in charging most children as non-adults. We have cases in Vancouver of kids under 16 who have broken into and stolen 100's of cars and are just released because they are under age. I think that is pathetic. I think it is just another example of how western society's laws are becoming ineffective.****( Do I sound middle aged yet?)****
  • i think at whatever age in which they understant what they did and if the crime is serious enough
  • Well my answer won't be realistic but I have a 15 year old who at her age knows right from wrong & if she did commit a crime should not be able to use the "I didn't know" defense. If it was up to me, I'd say 14
  • At the age of 18. The law should be black and white. please read this answer, which I think is perfect: http://www.answerbag.com/a_view/1260580
  • This is kind of a loaded question and should never have a fixed answer. To put a limit on this is like applying mandatory sentenceing guidelines. People mature differently and should be,somehow, "evaluated" for the crimes they commit.
  • I would say 15 or 16. When you turn 18 you are already considered an adult. When you are 15 or 16, you should by then know the difference between right and wrong.
