Does the water smell anywhere else? Like when you run the sink water in the kitchen? or another bath? You might try checking the anode rod in your hot water heater. Sometimes there is a chemical reaction with it and your water, so instead of the anodes being the attractant, the tank itself is. But first, drain it real well to make sure there is nothing in it that could be causing the problem, like sand or dirt.

And something else I hate to bring up because this could be a real headache for you, do you know how your drainpipes from the shower are? Is there a proper trap? You could be experiencing backed up sewer gases or the gases combining with older corroded pipes. I hope it's not a plumbing problem but I've seen it happen when bad installations have been done:-(
