    Anything BT.

BT is a band that focuses on all kinds of techno: Dance, Trance, Trip hop, Breakbeat, and Acid Jazz.

That will get you started and help you decide which is your favorite type of techno and will guide your futher purchases.

Other good techno artists are: Groove Armada, Orbital, DJ tiesto, Faithless, Paul Oakenfold,
Paul VanDyk, Daft Punk, Basement Jaxx, Deep Dish and The Prodigy. (there's more, but that's the most common of em')

I can't beleive the musical illiteracy shown by some of the answers here.

I suggest you look up the genre in Wikipedia where a list of *real* Techno artists is shown, along with some of the specialist record labels to look out for.

Daft Punk's Homework. Or Discovery. Or Human After All. Those should get you off to a pretty decent start. The styles vary from song to song, so it may help you pinpoint a favorite subgenre of electronica.
