  • vegies
  • I agree. Veggies are better simply because of the low amount of 'sugar' like substance in them.
  • I wish it were fruit but it's not.
  • Most fruits have significant amounts of sugar. Certainly anyone with diabetes or pre-diabetes (metabolic syndrome, or syndrome X), or anyone trying to lose weight, might want to stay away from them, especially in juice form (juice doesn't have the fiber that the actual fruit does, meaning that it has a much faster effect on blood sugar, which is why diabetics suffering from hypoglycemic shock may use it in lieu of glucose tablets). Vegetables are generally healthier for you because they have very low sugar content, if any. But there exceptions - root vegetables, such as carrots and beets, have reasonably significant sugar content, approaching some fruits. Potato is a vegetable - and it's the DEVIL when it comes to its effect on blood sugar, having a digustingly high glycemic index - worse than any fruit. And with fruits, there are exceptions too. The benefits of eating blueberries are being documented all the time, even having a positive effect on glucose metabolism. You wouldn't want to overdo it, but a cup a day of blueberries statistically reduces your chances of suffering a number of age-related diseases, and has proven to be neuroprotective. Of course, supplementation of blueberry extract would be more beneficial. Grapes give us wine, which has significant quantities of polyphenols, including resveratrol, a miracle compound that may even slow down the aging process with its effects on SIRT1 gene expression (mimicking some of the effects of calorie restriction). So it's not a "one of better than the other". But in general, as a group, vegetables win, even with the potato (which may as well be a sack of sugar) bringing down the "health average".
  • I would think Vegetables since fruit have alot of sugar in them. Which is good for me, because I LOVE Vegetables. :)
