Everytime I think of Detroit I think of the film Roger and Me by Michael Moore - I think of a poor woking class town. (even thought the film was about Flint Michigan)

It's nice to see some of the improvements that have been made over the past few years. The Super Bowl was a very bid deal for the city, and it was encouraging to hear good things from the people in town for the game.
Detroit has (I feel) always gotten a bad rap in the national press (in particular, Rick Reilly, of Sports Illustrated, during the Ryder Cup in 2004.)
Detroit has its bad points, just like other large cities, and, just like other large cities, it has its good points

Ugh, too humid. Was there a few years ago in the summertime, no thank you. Though the job was at the Domino's Pizza headquarters (in Ann Arbor) and there was a herd of bison just out there grazing, was pretty cool to look out the window & see those.

Honestly I don't bother thinking about it.
I live on the other side of the state and we pretty much think of Detroit as our alcoholic/drug addicted/usually jailed cousin.

Only slightly worse than New Jersey.

They should make a new slogan:

New Jersey: The state ya gotta go through.

Detroit: Welcome to Detroit.....Now, get in the trunk.......

I've only been in their airport.
It appears to be a depressed city, high in unemployment. The sports arenas appear to be top notch. I have a co-worker from Michigan, he doesn't say many positive things about Detroit.

Since It's my birth place maybe I'm more bias then most people but I'm saddened as of what has happen to a once wonderful and proud city, I cant help wonder that detroit was given up for dead long ago It's my opinion that once Motown Records left the city It just seemed to give up and that Is truly sad and now that the economy has worsened up there many more problems have emirged.

It's a cadaver.I went there in January and it looks as bad as ever.Beautiful old buildings shot to hell.A once gorgeous Belle Isle looking like a bomb hit it.A mis-managed city run by a mayor that's in alot of trouble with the law.

cold, dirty and full of crime. life expectancy in that city is an all time LOW! not a good move if thinking about it. Places like Muskegon, Whitehall aren't bad at all. I loved it there; the rest of the state is in a state of emergency if you ask me. No harm intended you Michiganers, my ex is a Wolverine. :o/

    G'day Detroit,

    Thank you for your question.

Detroit is known for its urban decay as seen in Eminem's Eight Mile. However, it has also been the source of great music from Motown to rock (Iggy Pop, MC5, Bob Seger, Kid Rock) to rap (Eminem).

So put your hands up for Detroit.

    Regards

I lived there for the first 40 years of my life. I still can't put my opinion into words. It was the best of times, It was worst of times. Someone once called Detriot the first dead city in America. That might be true, but I still miss it. By the way, it's the only city in the continental U.S that is due north of Canada.

The city has its own beauty when you look deeper...yes much of it has suffered for over 40 years since the riots...but the buildings that survived are gorgeous. The train station is beautiful! They used it in the Transformers movie fyi :) I still have faith in the city. It's the suburbs I can't stand here lol!

Well, I lived just outside Detroit most of my life, and I moved far away from there. What does that tell you? There is lots to do downtown and you can have a good time, it's the surrounding areas...the neighborhoods of Detroit and the neighborhoods near there that are bad.

Depends on where you go in Detroit. I had just met my boyfriend. Later that week it was New Years Eve. He asked if I wanted to go to Detroit (we are from Lansing) to hang out. I told him no b/c I did not want to get shot. His brother got shot that night! I jinxed them.

    Kwame didnt help either!
