    The penalty depends on the legal jurisdiction in which you reside. In Canada, where I live, perjury is covered under Section 132 of the Criminal Code and reads: "Every one who commits perjury is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding fourteen years."
