Marijuana

Best way is to become a masochist and enjoy the pain.
My Dad taught me a focusing technique he picked up in China. It's a mind over matter type of thing that lets you externalize the pain. It works well for nagging pains as well as those sudden, bothersome pains like broken limbs.
I think it is a Buddhist technique.
EFT works very well for pain. It's simple to do, can be done anytime, is free if you learn how to do it yourself and can be used for most anything.
You can get the free manual on how to do it here:
http://www.emofree.com/
I know ti sounds or looks weird and too good to be true, but it does work. If you can't do it yourself, you can also find a therapist to help teach you how to do it. But I've found that even 4 year olds can learn how for simple things.
Here's a video shopwing how to use it for migraines.
Music, as demonstrated by John Cale:
We deal with alot of pain issues in Hypnotherapy with great success and I think EFT is wonderful, maybe you can check Homeopathy has worked wonders for my family and they get to the core instead of treating symptoms
I have lived with pain most of my life, especially after a car accident.I decided years ago ,not to use drugs for pain as in the long term i believe these chemicals will exact a price. So, for my back and neck problems, i now use bowen therapy-much better than chiropractic and much safer.I use wheat bags -heated in the microwave for the neck and back, and cold packs for the head along with
ice in the mouth which transfers through my teeth and gives great relief.
What do you mean abusing painkillers? Why not just use them?
Pain is something which can drive people to death.
In my view the few ways can be trying to speak to your loved ones in that way trying not to think about the pain.
Or watch a match on TV when it is live.
Read the Holy Bible and Pray with Faith to heal the pain.
remember Miracles do happen when we have faith!
Massage therapy, Acupuncture, Accupressure, Streches.
What kind of pain?
There are lots of great and interesting answers here. I have recently found Feldenkrais and Hanna Somatics -- both are somatic education -- to be particularly helpful with chronic pain from previous injuries. I've recently learned that when we are injuried we tense our muscles to protect the injured part of our body. Then this tension becomes habitual without our awareness. And it’s not something you “decide to relax" and it goes away. It takes conscious effort and a specific program targeted at the problem.
There is some thinking that people with chronic pain not caused by an injury, in some cases are in a similar cycle caused by stress where habitual tension becomes chronic pain. I know I also fit this description. Massages have been a therapeutic part of my life for many years to help minimize my chronic pain. After a particularly stressful timeframe I can feel like a truck ran over me.
Somatic education is not some “woo-woo” thing. It is based in the knowledge and understanding of how the body moves. Mainstream doctors and physical therapists recommend somatic education. For example, Kaiser Permanente in my area recommends Feldenkrais for patients with chronic pain. Although I have found that many medical professionals, even within Kaiser, have never heard of Feldenkrais or other somatic education.
There are various somatic educations available to increase awareness and train our brains and muscles to relax and preform more naturally, without pain. Somatic education is gentle and easy -- not at all like "exercising" -- yet my personal results have been very powerful. It's been a perfect complement to my physical therapy, weekly work-outs and daily physical activities.
I wish the best to anyone suffering from pain. My heart goes out to you.
To start with pain is not a thing it is a signal generated by damaged or distressed tissue, not a symptom or problem but the first step in fixing the problem. So the only rational way to deal with pain in my opinion is to process that signal extract all the information contained in it and then fix the tissue generating the signal. The basic how to information is here http://www.helium.com/tm/148271
Reiki treatments are really helpful in pain relief for physical pain and also for memotional pain
Use heat if it is due to muscle tension/spasm. Cold will also work and functions to numb superficially (but don't use on tense muscles!) Acupunture may work. If it is back pain, pain from buttocks down to leg, or headaches, a chiropracter may help. Different relazation techniques may also work. Massage may work. And distraction. Abusing painkillers will not work. Other symptoms may appear that may be even more painful.
I would suggest homeopathic remedies, but you need to find the differentials for these to work and would be best to see a homeopath.
The other is Australian Bush Flower Essences various ones to use though Emergency Essence is the default essence handling many of them.
the book Australian Bush Flower Healing by Ian White is best to deal with specific types of pain.
