Check to see if there are any service bulletins on your make of vehicle. IE: I own a 95 mustang with a 3.8 V-6 engine and my car started to overheat, it ended up being a head gasket. I was going to remove the heads, do a valve job and replace the gaskets and I did some research online and found out that Ford Motor Co. had a problem with the wrong head gaskets used on my model engine and it blocked one of the cooling ports. It caused the engine to fail pre-maturly. There was a service bulletin that if the engine blew a head gasket, they would fix it under an extended warranty at no cost to the owner. If the engine Hydrolocked, they would replace the engine at no charge. This was 5 years ago and they put a new engine in my car that had 68,000 miles on it at no charge to me. In reference to you piecing the car out, it would probably be wiser to repair it and try to sell and recoup your money from your investment.
If you have ownership you can do whatever you want with it. If it's under lease or finance, then you need to consult the financing company. From what I know you may have three options:
1) Pay for the repairs and finish the lease/finance
2) Pay a penalty for cutting off the lease and give the car back fixed
3) Sell it for scrap and flee the country (Not kiddin on this one - they will hunt you down wherever you are)

You're reading My car's warranty has expired but the head gasket just blew apart and ruined the engine. Can I piece the car for parts without getting a penalty from my finance company?
