  • The Catawba Trail is a very large system of trails and is the age is likely different on each section. It is also known as the Cherokee Path, Iroquois Main Road, and Olean Trail. There is currently an archeological study occurring adjacent to a section of the trail in Elk County, Pennsylvania. Early indications are dating human association with the trail to about 10,500 years ago. The trail was a main warpath between the Cherokee and Iroquois. Linguistically the separation between these groups can be placed at about 2000 years ago. It is likely the trail was used in its current form for at least 2000 years.
