Humans, like other animals, attempt to store surplus energy as fat in case of famine. There are several places on the body where this fat can accumulate; the "beer belly" is one of them. The site of fat accumulation in an individual is genetically determined, as is the rate of accumulation, so blame your ancestors for that beer belly. Or just do a lot of sit-ups to work it off.

There are two reasons that cause a person to develop a "beer belly".If one drinks enough beer he consumes a very high number of calories. Beyond basic needs, these calories are stored as fat. Reason #2: alcohol is very toxic to the liver. With excessive intake of alcohol the liver becomes diseased, the liver can no longer function normally, and all the functlons of the liver become impaired, including circulation and filtration. Water collects in the abdominal cavity (sometimes measured in gallons) and causes a distended "beer belly".
