  • I suggest getting some algae eaters or more than your using. don't allow natural sunlight to beam through your tank and check and make sure your using the proper size filtering system. you should also remove the gravel if your using it when you clean your tank as it can also build up algae (at least every third time you clean it.
  • Good answer above, a large Brown snail will eat algae, also a Plec fish, i hardly ever have algae probs and my plec has now grown to 9 inches he's like an algae hoover.
  • How much sun exposure is it getting? Less is better, none is best, other then that, what's the GPH rating for your filter and yes, get some plecostomus (algae eaters)or snails, but snails multiply.
  • Hello; You are either adding fertilizer --- water with high phosphate --- nitrates --- or you do not do frequent water changes. Nitrate is a fertilizer and builds normally in a tank as it is the end product in the nitrate cycle. Nitrates should be kept below 50 ppm. Weekly water changes will remove nitrates and lower the dissolved organic compounds in the water. Add some salt about 1-teaspoon per gallon to the new water and add some rams horn snails as they will quickly multiply and eat all your algae. I only recommend what I use --- I have not cleaned my inside aquarium glass for over a year! Please use sea salt ---- many stores sell it in bulk now very reasonable and it contains many different elements good for fish and Calcium to help buffer the PH of the water and to build the snail shells. There are only some very limited species of fish that cannot tolerate salt. I use it in all my aquariums along with underground filters. UGF's have a bad reputation --- yes they work so well they do raise the Nitrate levels --- they break down material so well they cannot be replaced by any filter smaller than the whole back of your tank ! All aquariums need weekly water changes --- use the same water source and the same amount and type of salt every time and you will have very little problems. Mollies and Guppies need salt and Mollies need 1-tablespoon per gallon to stay healthy. My 29- gallon breeder tanks have well over 100 fish! OFM
  • I suggest getting a pleco which eats the algae.
