What is the most severe type of phobia?

    In my opinion, the most severe type of phobia is one that you have no control over. For instance, you can avoid planes if you are afraid of flying but you can't avoid getting sick if you are afraid of vomiting (emetophobia). When the phobia controls your life because you live in fear of and obsess about your fear happening, that's severe. In my opinion, emetophobia is one of the worst, if not THE worst phobia to have.

    Each phobia can be severe. The real indicator of the worst phobia would be how adversely someone is affected by the phobia. For example, fear of heights can be easily avoided where as fear of spiders is not as easy. Probably the worst is agoraphobia which is the generalised fear of leaving your home or safe area. This is the only regularly treated phobia (not the only one but the most common). This is subjective and there may be other phobia's that impair the quality of life.
