  • Like/love is a scale of dislike through to 'soulmates'. Us humans are social creatures, so we strive to attain compny. We surround ourselves with people that willhelp us the most, whether it be through physical labour, laughter, knowledge etc., and those we can trust. The better someone fits the needs of the individual at hand the more that person will try to be around them. Now sexual reproduction is a huge thing in any sexually reproductive species, so we strive for a good mate. This can be done through looks (tell tale sign that that person has good genes), genetic differences (opposing genetic make-up is best because then any flaws in your DNA will be counter-acted by the non-flaws in theirs) and personality (knowledgeable, funny etc.). The better the fit of the person of the gender you are sexually attracted to the more you will try to be with that person. When you are in their presence your heart rate increases (fight or flight), pheremones get dumped into the air to attract them and all sorts of chemicals get sent around the brain. Dopemines, emphetimines etc. make you feel happy The more you are in their presence the more of these get pumped. The better the fit the more get pumped. The scale I suppose can be measured as to hoiw much of these chemicals get pumped. When that person is basically a perfect fit then the most possible will get pumpe the more intimate you are with them. Love is a biochemical defence mechanism, just like amny others. Just because it is understood doesn't remove its magic. We still get sweaty palms and butterflies in our stomachs, the emotions are very strong, understood or not!
