Some people are set in their ways...and change means having to do, view, think of things differently. Some are afraid they won't fit in or they aren't prepared.

It's a matter of comfort vs the fear of the unknown. Change brings with it the risk of failure.

Under the hate is fear of the unknown, fear of lack, and fear of the 'other'. Which is where the saying "better the devil you know than the devil you don't" comes from. All of which is usually expressed by trying to control .. situations, people, the environment, etc. Which brings me to one of my favorite movie quotes, You think you control everything but the only thing you control is your thermostat! (And only that if there's fuel for your furnace .. which you have no control over.)

I think people grow comfortable with the way things are. One little bump in the road can throw them for a loop. I don't like change and that's why, it is just easier to go along the way things are.
