I hope to one day sing opera but have found I have a large amount of phlegm in my throat. What type of foods and/or drinks should I avoid, or consume, to make sure I have a clear singing voice?

I agree with the stressica when they said that you should avoid dairy and caffeinated stuff, but I recommend that you don't DEPEND on hot tea to fix your problem...out of personal experience, I tried tea and it actually made my throat worse by making me unable to sing at all. I mean, you can try it of course, but like I said, just don't depend on it.This helped me and it might help you to: I would also suggest drinking more water to see if it helps your throat too.

Definitely avoid dairy if it's before you are about to sing, because it produces plegm. Also avoid caffeinated foods like coffee, chocolate, soda etc. because they will dehydrate you and make your voice scratchier. I would also try to avoid eating super spicy meals for that reason as well. Just make a point of drinking enough water to feel hydrated, and maybe drink hot tea to kind of flush the phlegm down? I don't think a little honey would hurt either.
