  • It's not a good idea to make foods like these a regular part of their diet, but a little taste now and then won't kill them. Chips have a higher salt content than they are used to in foods and they may dislike some of the flavours. The only food that I have ever seen one obviously reject was a nibble of a dill pickle I once offered one. It jumped to the other side of the cage after tasting it. They're not big on millet, either, and some commercial hamster mixes include a lot of it because it is cheap. They will, however, get a lot more benefit from eating foods such as unshelled nuts (except for almonds, which contain cyanide). This gives them both chewing exercise and a treat at the end.
  • Chocolate is NOT good for them. It strains their heart because they cannot metabolize caffeine quickly enough, and yes, it is possible to kill them with it if they eat too much. (Humans are almost alone in being able to metabolize chocolate properly.) And as Red John says, the salt on chips isn't great for them either, though they generally like the tast of it. Nuts or fresh veggies...much, much better.
  • No Never give hamsters junk food or chocolate it WILL KILL them !!!! i've tried it "its not pretty"
  • Hamsters are omnivores and will eat almost any thing but the cafine and cocoa in chocolate is bad for hamsters as well as dogs, chips would be fine, but to much of junk food is bad for hamsters and humans but if you do try and feed a chip to your hamster always introduce new foods in small bits of it and the gradualy get bigger.
  • God no, never feed an animal chocolate. As far as chips, nothing serious would happen, but it wouldn't be good for your hamster's health. If you want to give it treats try grapes, or they sell treats specificaly for hamsters in pet stores, they're made with yogurt and they like those.
  • chips are bad for hamster and salt thing and surger its not good for hamster or dogs and it can give them shoter life.
