  • I believe the only "respectful" way to dispose of a worn flag or one that has touched the ground is actually to burn it.
  • Flag burning is not something I feel too good about. I think it is one of the most disrespectful things that someone can do. It is horrible.
  • Depends on how it is done Highlander, if it is done to disrespect a Country then I get upset, If it is done to dispose of, ok. it dosent matter if its a flag a bible, a religious article, a leaders picture or likeness, when something is done to disrespect that person or group then it is a disturbance, and upsetting. ( Kind of like that dartboard I had made up with my EX wife's picture on it )
  • I feel it shows disrespect for the men & women who have fought & died for this country. The only time I feels its appropriate is when its old & worn but only then. I feel its cheap & cowardly of those that burn it out of disrespect to offend us. To me its like their saying I don't care your family died for me to have this freedom. Its like a slap in the face kind of insult.
  • If you dislike the country that much that you want to burn its flag, have you considered immigration to a place you find better? That's all I have to say. People can do it or not, but they should think about their motives and more constructive ways of getting results.
  • I could understand that a lot of people in a country could and do get upset over the issue. It does say that one has the freedom to do so in protest, and not thrown in jail, like in countries were people have no rights.Citizens of ones own country burn their flags,as well as in countries that are occupied or repressed by other countries, they burn their oppressor's flag.
  • Flag-burning shows that those leftists who say "How dare you question my patriotism?" are in fact anti-American, unpatriotic, and hate their own country. So I'm glad they do it; it helps us identify them.
  • It depends on the situation. If it's done to mock, then I think it's disgusting. If it's done for its true purpose, to dispose of a flag that has touched the ground or is too worn to display, then I think it's the correct and respectful thing to do.
  • I have no opinion
  • It's freedom of speech. People who have a problem with flag burning place more value on the symbol than on what it represents.
  • I think it's disrespectful for many of the reasons that have already been posted. I don't understand why, if someone hates what it stands for enough to burn it, why they don't move to another country. That continues to puzzle me. However, I don't feel it should be illegal because of freedom of speach. I don't think it should be illegal to burn it, I think there are MANY, MANY more important laws and issues that congress should be focusing on.
  • As a gesture of respect to dispose of a damaged flag, it is the proper thing to do. As a protest in a demonstration against government policy I believe it is a right of free speech. I would never do it, but I respect other's right to do so.
  • I understand those who do have a right to do so, this does not mean I give up my personal opinion that I would like to bust a cap in their unappreciative asses. It's slap in the face to millions of brave people who have given their lives so that those assholes can burn that flag.
  • I dont have the link maybe i could find it, but i found some photos of protestors lighting a flag on fire and one of them accidentally catching himself on fire. Not that the punishment was fitting, but i have to say i laughed that some justice had been served and the man proven to be an idiot. But should it be outlawed or anything? No. Weve got bigger problems to face. Flag buring is stupid, not just because its offensive, but because it doesnt do anything. Make a sign with a catchy phrase on it to aid your protest, or write a song, or whatever hippies like to do. Burning a flag doesnt communicate a message well and only turns the other side against you.
  • It's disrespectful, but isn't that the point? I'm glad I'm an American and I serve in the military. I don't like it but I support peoples right to express themselves figuratively. I also support my right to tell them to go f*ck themselves, but that's beside the point I guess. For me, the primary concern is that we enjoy our freedoms, even the ungrateful ones.
  • I would fight to the death to defend their right to do that. On the other hand, I have not failed to beat the ass of anyone I have caught doing it. Just because one has the right to do something doesn't mean there isn't still risk of pissing people off.
  • i'll defend the right to do it any day i just happen to find it ironic that they'll burn the flag to mock the govt that upholds the very constitution that gives them the right to do so in the first place and they'll defend it as their right to do so - which it of course is but then they go complain about the crappy gov't system when they step right out of the line to do anything other than make noise rather than do something that will make change as much as i am for raising awareness to a cause, burning a flag is only going to piss people off - and i'll probably be one of those people who immediately step away from an argument if you burn the flag. there are other ways to get your point across. less extreme and more likely to catch the attention of those outside of that specific subculture who will actually do something about it ex: burn the flag>>>piss off civilians and gain support of anarchists OR protest, pickets>>>piss off civilians, but catch some civilian's attention who just might get off their asses and petition, or look up and do more research, raise awareness... . it just makes more sense not to
