The best you could ever hope it to teach people to eat better and take better care of themselves, but other than that we're stuck plus I do NOT want to live forever. I look forward to getting off this rock somehow. Death is the only solution I'm aware of and space is out because the body degenerates even faster in space.
Even though the cells can regenerate over an over, replication errors do occur which accumulate over time.
from evolutionary point, it would be irresponsible, old die to save resources for the young to grow.
It is not controlled buy the brain but the brain is subject to it, therefore the body is not capable of reversing the process. We are stck with it. We may be able to slow down the process but never will we stop it!

You're reading If ageing is the slow death and non regeneration of cells and (I assume) the brain controls this process.....can we not reprogramme our mind to continue cellular regeneration indefinately and never grow old or die?

Interesting. I thought the body would last forever in the airless and cold space. I suppose the radiation from the sun degenerates the body? By the way, what is death the solution to? The problem of life with no apparant purpose?

Your body might last longer, but unless you never plan on returning to earth you're likely to never have use of your muscles again if you're in space for to long. NASA and the Russians learned that in extended space occupation. Our bodies are evolved to have gravity pull us back down. Just what do you plan to reprogram? The human brain is not a computer even though it's often compared to one. Human brain learns. Computers don't learn.
Death is the solution to the age old dilemma of what can we do to live forever..we can't..everything eventually dies. And why would you want to live forever anyway? Your body WILL age and even in space it will age. Humans have evolved to be this way. It's in every living things DNA to eventually expire..
