  • no we have too many home grown sports for european football to really take hold.
  • Aye..indeed. Since everyone is headed here. The U.S gets the best. Unfortunately also the worst.
  • I very much doubt it, at least in the immediate future. The problem is for the sport to develop there must be more interest and I think this will only ever be limited. It's obvious that sports like American football, baseball, basketball and hockey all rank above 'soccer' in terms of popularity. Unless interest increases vastly then I can't see where the incentive would be for people to invest in the sport. Although I understand grass roots soccer is quite well established, there doesn't seem to be a continuation of top quality players coming up through the ranks (perhaps because it's not as profitable as a profession as it is elsewhere). I believe the MLS will steadily improve as it's popularity expands but this will happen very slowly and I doubt it is going to overtake other sports in that sense in the US. Ageing top class stars may start to be more attracted to the league but that certainly isn't enough for the overall quality to increase significantly. Of course, it's difficult to tell how things will change over time but right now I can't foresee the American league growing stronger than those in Europe.
  • no we are not a soccer playinng nation
  • No you have your own sports... do you think we in the UK will ever have an American football league as strong as the leagues in the US? No, because you probably dont even know we play... And I didnt know you have a football league until Beckham joined a team. And frankly, your football is actually more fun to watch, in my opinion.
  • Some countries adopt sports quite easily, but the American sports are very well entrenched as are sports in other countries entrenched. We will play soccer, but we will never as good as the Europeans or the South Americans. Which is to say we can't beat them on any given day, but we'll never have a team that "competes" in every match and have the quality of players up and down the rosters.
  • Only if you give up Gridiron and Baseball to consentrate on Soccer......and you aint gonna do that now ,are you.
  • No way . Your other sports are too popular.
  • It's a good possibility as the interest is getting bigger in more european countries and even in some Asian countries.
  • Can't be. We have too many other sports taking the good and great athletes. Soccer gets some but baseball, football, basketball and hockey also take some. Besides, soccer is the least popular of the 5, pays the players less and has less glamor.
  • Not until more American atheletes feel Soccer is a viable sport they can earn top dollars in. We currently have much more money in Baseball, football, and basketball so our natural athletes (the ones most likely to make it to the professional level) naturally seek places in those sports...we must get those top athletes to love the beautiful game. Then our league will be as strong as any fan base for the other professional sports in the mighty USA.
