  • It's understandable but gays without a doubt should be allowed in the military.
  • I think it's ridiculous to restrict gays from the military because it might distract other soldiers or cause them to be more vulnerable to blackmail by the enemy. It's little more than homophobic justification for discrimination. The "don't as, don't tell" policy was enacted originally in 1994 to protect gays in the military. At the time, there was an active campaign to rid the military of gays and nearly any means could be employed. "Don't ask, don't tell" was enacted as a means of letting someone serve so long as they served in silence. Looking back, it seems like flimsy policy (and it was badly applied), but at the time it was a step forward. Now new steps forward need to be taken, allowing a person to live their life openly without fear of reprisal.
  • They should be in the military, besides they are just as qualified as anyone.
  • My ONLY concern about gays in the military is that there are so many bigotted , narrow minded homophobes in the US military, that I would be concerned about their safety. As to the "sexual tension" that might occur, that is a myth created by the same idiots that think all homosexuals are attracted to them. Guess what idiots, they aren't! There is more sexual distraction being caused by the lunkheads who have to hit on every woman in the military, and hoot and whistle everytime a woman walks by.
  • First, I want to point out that I think gays SHOULD be allowed into the military. And they should be allowed in even if, unasked, they reveal openly that they are homosexuals. I'm a strong supporter and advocate of gay rights, including their right to marry. I'm straight though, just to clarify. But I do have, well, a question that I think is raised by gays in the military. We currently keep women and men in separate barracks (or whatever they're called), and they shower and sleep and change clothes in separate places. That's ultimately because of sex - men and women might be getting it on otherwise. Doesn't the fact that there are gays in the military sort of, well, make you think about that? I don't know what I'm trying to say here, actually. But maybe we need co-ed mixed sex barracks and showering. Because separating the sexes to avoid sexual stuff going on doesn't work 100% because of the phenomenon of homosexuality. Am I wrong?
