  • ???? ?? = 1 KB 1000 KBs = 1 MB 1000 MBs = 1 GB Above are rough figures.
  • theres also 1000, confusion as to which to use exists, but its only 1000 or 1024

  • that depends if you're asking a computer or a hard drive manufacturer... a computer counts in binary. 8 bits = 1 byte 1024 bytes = 1 KB 1025 KB = 1 MB 1024 MB = 1 GB 1024 GB = 1 PB etc but because kilo, mega, and giga are prefixes meaning 1,000 1,000,000 and 1,000,000,000 respectively manufacturers use this instead of the computers definition of powers of 2. so when you buy a hard drive that says "100 Gigabytes" it has 100,000,000,000 bytes... which a computer will only read as about 95 gigabytes
  • 1024 MBs. The 1000 MB thing is done by hard disk manufacturers giving the excuse of "approximation" but actually when you buy a hard disk it makes a big deal whether it is 1000MB or should have been 1024.
  • 4 bits = 1 nibble 2 nibbles = 1 byte 8 bits = 1 byte 1024 bytes = 1 kilobyte (KB for short) 1025 KB = 1 megabyte (MB for short) 1024 MB = 1 gigabyte (GB for short) 1024 GB = 1 terabyte (TB for short) 1024 TB = 1 petabyte (PB for short) 1024 PB = 1 exabyte 1024 exabytes = 1 zettabyte 1024 zettabytes = 1 yottabyte http://www.unc.edu/~rowlett/units/prefixes.html if you scroll to the bottom section it gives you a little summary of how these numbers come from :P
