In the US, if you are hurt at work and are unable to work, you go on workers comp. Check your companies bi-laws to see if you have to use up all your vacation and personal time first. MOST companies will not do that. Good Luck, I hope your bones heal fast!

I was injured at work and it was suggested strongly that I use my vacation time. I declined. I was'nt hurt at work but when I hurt my wrist and was off for two months I had to us my vacation first and then disability.

In Canada we have Workers Compensation. The employer pays into it and if we are hurt on the job we get 80% of our wage, no taxes are taken so it works out pretty much the same. I would never use my holiday pay and legally they can't force you to.

You have been provided with a number of answers, and this may only supplement what you read to date. First of all, you utilize your alloted sick days before taking your vacation days. This is a routine process in the US. Secondly, when you injured yourself at work, you shouldhave reported the accident, and in turn your employer notifies the workers compensation carrier. Assuming you are unable to work, check to see what disability insurance you have if any. Any SSI benefits if approved wont kick in for six months if you are deemed permanently disabled, which does not sound like the case. You should be aware that your workers compensation if approved, will pay you 'x' dollars while you are out of work. Best suggestion here is to obtain legal advice in your state from a qualified workers compensation attorney ---- good luck to you, I have been where you are
