First, I am sorry for your loss. But your cat is greaving as well. You need to get a new litterbox and put it in a different place for starters. She is likely associating the box being dirty with his death.

The thing you should be worried about is that if she does not use the tray at all, what is she using instead?! Why not let her go outside instead?

SHE COULD BE CONNECTING THAT BOX WITH A STRESSFUL OR TRAUMATIZING TIME IN YOUR LIVES OR IF SHE WAS CLOSE TO YOUR HUSBAND SHE COULD BE CONNECTING IT TO THAT LOSS I WOULD TRY GETTING HER A TOTALLY NEW BOX AND EVEN TRY CHANGING THE TYPE OF LITTER MOVE THE BOX TO A DIFFERENT SPOT CATS ARE VERY INTUITIVE TO OUR FEELINGS IT WASN'T A GOOD TIME FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY WICH SHE IS A PART OF TRY MY ADVICE AND LET ME KNOW WHAT HAPPENS

Did you use something like sented litter as you cat can smell the plastic container even though it is cleaned. Palstic absorbs the smell. Try buying another one if that doesn't work. Sorry about your loss. I am sending you a burst of unversal love to surround and protect you. May all your days be blessed!

this might sound weird, but animals KNOW. i think its her way of reacting to your husband dying. to which i am very sorry about.

She stopped using the box because it became repugnant to her when it was not being cleaned. Once a cat gets an aversion, it keeps it even though the circumstances have changed. Best bet would be to introduce her to a new box. Being a female, she would really enjoy a covered one. Please don't chase her outside.
