Whenever you do any working out, your muscles are tearing and that's why when people start a exercise regimen, they include rest days to allow the muscles to heal. (But I bet you didn't get this in the marines, huh?) When your ribs are bruised, it will heal itself at relatively, the same rate as other parts of your body, but if you're constantly tearing your muscles with more exercise, it will take longer to heal. You probably can't take a rest day so just be aware that that is what is happening and it'll just take a bit longer for it to heal up. If possible, intake more protein to help your muscles replenish themselves, even if you can't take a rest day.

I assume royal marines? Man, I did a PT sesh with them once 'battle fitness circuits' more like an hour of hell! Good to know you're still in pain, as long as you gave top effort :P I find it highly unlikely you've ever done a phys sesh as harsh as the one you did with the marines. Because of this, your body isn't used to this sudden 'best effort' thrashing. It can take along time for your body to heal itsself, but as mentioned, higher protein intake is best.
