How long did you rent before buying your home?

23 years since moving out on my own. We now own a condo but I always wanted a home with a yard. At least I don't have to mow the lawn.

In the past at various times I've owned two homes. The first time we rented about a year and then bought a home..sold the home and rented again for maybe 5 years and then bought another. Sold that after about 6 years and have been renting ever since. Do we want to own a home? You betcha! Is that a probability? Highly unlikely..although with the stockmarket doing its nosedive and the housing market being in the chaotic condition it currently is, maybe there will be some circumstance that will present itself and we can buy our own little place. We shall see.

19 years. It was worth it. We now own just over three acres in the mountains with a brook running through the yard. AND I can pick blueberries to my hearts content.

10 years...20 to 30...then bam...bought my first house...it's for sell NOW...lol In San Diego!

We only rented for 5 months and then lived in a parents home while they were out of the country. Then we bought some land and lived on it for many months in a tent trailer, no electricity because it ws over a mile away. It took another year for us to get a mobile home and then 4 more years for electricity. We lived there for over 30 years. We sold out there and bought the land here in upstate New York with the money we got from selling in CA. We are in the process of building a log home oj 14 acres in the woods with a beautiful natural pond and stream. It's hard starting all over but worth it. It's beautiful out here and amazing to think that every part of the house we have built with our own hands. AND at our age:-) We're bothin our 50s.

8 years. We lived in some really DUMPY rentals! Owned for 13 years now.

4 years rental, bought a house lived there 3 years and put up for rent and bought another home been here for 6 years now and sold our rental in 06'

Rented for almost 12 years before buying. It is nice to own a home, but it was a real luxury to call a landlord when something needed fixing!! Both renting and owning have their advantages.

I was 19 years old when i bought my flat, and paid for it during 15 years.Now in Moscow, in Russia where I live, to buy a flat is very expencive.
