I don't know for sure but my guess is teaching is more like having other follow your example and you help them learn from a "front of the room" type of atmosphere. Instructing to me is more hands on and you learn by side by side work.

I am an "Instructor" at the Canadian West Coast Fleet School and my job is to "instruct" students in the maintenance of naval equipment such as radars and computers. When we "teach" we are giving our students general knowledge and showing ways to learn. They are shown abstract ideas and are asked to extrapolate from them. When we "instruct" we are giving them a set number of steps in a maintenance or fault-finding procedure. So teaching is imparting knowledge and instruction is imparting technique. Hope this helps.
